Information For Authors

Journal of Animal Production Research

1. Contributions must be on original research or review in livestock production, especially of relevance to 'Africa and the tropics. Work already published or being considered for publication elsewhere is not acceptable.

2. Manuscripts (in English) should be submitted on CD and prepared on Microsoft Word. In addition to the electronic copy, three hard (printed) copies, complete with tables and illustrations, should be sent to:

3. Manuscripts should conform to the following format:

Title of paper (in capital letters): Name(s) and full address(es) of author(s); Abstract (general) not exceeding 200 words; Introduction; Materials and Methods; Results; Discussion (Or Results and Discussion); Acknowledgement (if any); References; Tables and illustrations (if any).

4. Weights and measures should be stated in the International System (SI) of units

5. References to published literature in the text should be by author (without initials) and year of publication. Where there are only two joint authors of a paper, both names should be stated, but only the senior author, followed by et al., should be stated for three or more joint authors. References must be listed alphabetically by author and chronologically within author(s). Two or more papers by the same author(s) in the same year should be identified as e. g., l978a, l978b, etc.

6. Tables and illustrations should be numbered serially in Arabic numerals, each on a separate page. Title and footnotes should be in small letters. In tables, horizontal lines should be kept to a minimum and vertical lines should be avoided. Figures should be in India ink. Photographs should be black and white, high contrast, glossy prints. Legends for figures and plates should be on separate pages. Photographs or their legend must include an indication of magnification.

7. Intending authors should refer to the most recent issue of this journal for appreciation of the overall format. For more details on style and form, the author should refer to “Information for Authors”, published in Vol. l No l of this journal.

8. All papers will be assessed by at least two referees. Only the original of a rejected manuscript will be returned to the author, with a statement of the grounds for rejection.

9. In addition, a non-refundable handling charge of one thousand naira (N3000) only shall be paid by contributors at the time of manuscript submission.
